Jembi’s current portfolio of programs reflects its focus on health information systems strengthening in the broader health domain. Representative programs are detailed below.
- Open Architecture and Standards in Information Systems (OASIS) project
- Mozambique Open Architecture and Standards in Information Systems (MOASIS)
- Rwanda Health Enterprise Architecture (RHEA)
- Health Informatics Public Private Partnership (HI-PPP)
- Health Enterprise Architecture Laboratory (HEAL)
Open Architectures, Standards and Information Systems (OASIS)
Focus: [Capacity Development, Growing Partnerships]
The OASIS project, funded by the IDRC, has resulted in offices in South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, comprising dedicated health informatics specialists working in partnership with the respective Ministries of Health and donor organizations to strengthen in-country health information systems. The Mozambique OASIS (MOASIS) group has more than fifteen people supported by grants from the IDRC, CDC, PEPFAR and Health Metrics Network working on a combined operational plan agreed with the MoH, including more than twenty projects under active development.
Rwanda Health Enterprise Architecture (RHEA) Project
Focus: [Information Systems Development, Capacity Development]
The RHEA project comprises an international project team is funded by the IDRC, Rockefeller Foundation and PEPFAR. The international project team has designed an enterprise architecture based solution at country level and a health information exchange (HIE) to collate applications used at the point of care at a clinic level and improve maternal and child mortality in one district.
Health Informatics Public Private Partnership (HI-PPP)
Focus: [Growing Partnerships, Capacity Development]
HI-PPP was established by PEPFAR and comprises four partner organizations (Jembi, InSTEDD, Regenstrief Institute and WHO) and two US agencies (USAID and CDC) working together to apply advanced health informatics and technical assistance to low resource settings. Implementations are presently underway in Rwanda and Cambodia with several more being planned.
Health Enterprise Architecture Laboratory (HEAL)
Focus: [Capacity Development]
HEAL is a research group and unit within the School of Computer Science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa and provides an academic research environment for the development of advanced informatics design and building blocks for low resource settings. Jembi is a founder member of HEAL and jointly funds several student working on higher degrees within HEAL.
