Projects
Jembi Health Systems has undertaken a range of projects since its inception, many of these relating directly to the technical development of software or customization of existing applications to meet the needs of our partners or program objectives. With our projects often been driven driven by the needs and objectives of our programs of strategic direction we have grown to be an agile organization, looking to be able to react quickly and professionally to new opportunities and needs in our field. Our project portfolio includes the following:
Research in Enterprise Architecture for Coordinating Healthcare (REACH)
Focus: [Information Systems Development]
Jembi has adopted a customized reference implementation of the Canadian Health InfoWay blueprint; in the form of a health information exchange developed by Mohawk College in Ontario, and configured it for application in low resource settings. Building blocks from other architectural frameworks such as a framework used to develop interoperable health information systems in Brazil are also being integrated into the framework.
System Integration
Focus: [Information Systems Development]
- Jembi has partnered with World Health Organization (WHO) to develop the core Java libraries for SDMX-HD (Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange – Health Domain), an open standard for aggregated data, and used this to integrate data between OpenMRS and TracNET, an application used for compiling aggregate data in Rwanda.
- Jembi has also led the integration of several health information system components, including OpenMRS, the District Health information System (DHIS), an HIV dispensary management application (iDart) and an HIV drug resistance prediction application (RegaDB).
Clinical Systems implementations
Focus: [Information Systems Development]
Jembi has developed and implemented multiple Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System for various providers. The majority of solutions were developed as a prototype solutions and responses to calls for aid. These implementations include:
- Tshwane District Hospital HIV/AIDS Clinic: This system allows doctors to manage patients and electronically prescribe medication to be collected at the pharmacy, making use of the integrated OpenMRS and iDART system described above.
- Jembi has developed a centralized EMR application for the Independent Practice Association (IPA), and working with the Johannesburg City Medical Group (JCMG). This system allows IPA doctors to access records and maintains a stock and centralized reporting role.
Other Applications
Focus: [Information Systems Development]
- Jembi has developed applications on behalf of the WHO to extend the OpenMRS concept collaborative and cater for growing community needs for harmonized medical concepts.
- Jembi has entered into a development agreement with the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA) to develop an athlete training and monitoring information system to track high performance athletes and teams.
- The MOASIS group in Mozambique has developed SIS-ROH, a mortality data management system that codes cause of death data using ICD-10. The application is currently being implemented at hospitals in Mozambique and adapted for wider use in civil registration.
- MOASIS has also developed SIS-COL, a cholera surveillance application, used in Mozambique.
- The Zimbabwe Team (CEPHI) have developed and deployed a “Human Resources for Health” (HRH) system for health care workers in various health facilities in Zimbabwe.
- CEPHI has also developed a native pharmacy functionality module for OpenMRS in conjunction with requirements from Partners In Health.
