Program Manager
Jembi Health Systems (JHS), a non-profit company and NGO, based in Cape Town, South Africa, that strengthens health systems in low resource settings through the analysis, design, development and implementation of innovative health information systems. JHS is currently seeking an experienced Program Manager to support the activities of the JHS South Africa Program Office based in Cape Town.
Contract:
Based on availability of external funds. Salary will be in accordance with the qualifications, experience and responsibilities related to the position.
Job Summary:
The main role of the Program Manager (PM) is to assist the Director of Programs in providing guidance and oversight for JHS/South Africa’s programming interventions, including those in the four country offices (Mozambique, Rwanda and Zimbabwe), and in ensuring that the necessary staff and systems are in place to support the development and implementation of high-quality programs. The PM will ensure timely and pertinent communication and coordination within JHS programming units, including software and system development, country office, partners, donors and with local Ministries of Health and other government departments and representatives. The PM assists the Programs Director in supervising project staff and providing them with technical support and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
In compliance with JHS standards, the Program Manager will perform the following:
• Oversee technical implementations in-country in association with country staff and partners.
• Program Quality and Management
• Budgeting, Financial Planning and Reporting
• Coordination and Communication
• Supervisory Responsibilities and Staff Capacity Development
• Strategic and Growth Planning/Fundraising
• Proposal Development
• Partnership and MoH Relations
• Sub-regional programming
• Representation
Key Requirements:
• Tertiary education in medical or ICT4D sciences or a related field of expertise or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum three years in a management position, supervising staff, with intercultural experience (preferably in a developing country).
• Minimum five years experience working in an NGO environment.
• Strong knowledge and experience of health systems strengthening efforts and health information systems in low resource settings
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Demonstrated ability in project management including project design, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and evaluation of activities and programs, narrative and financial reporting, etc.
• Proven leadership in staff management and program implementation.
• Ability to work independently, but also coordinate effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to do research and produce high quality reports.
• Ability to represent Jembi in high level meetings with donors, MoH and donors.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
• Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
Location & Travel:
The position is based in the Cape Town head office. The position requires approximately 35% travel within South Africa and the Southern and East African region, as well as attendance at regional and international conferences and workshops when requested. Extended periods in-country may be required
