Senior Technical Program Manager
Overview
Jembi has an opportunity for an experienced and well-qualified Senior Technical Program Manager as part of our Program Team, to support local and international digital health projects in the public health technology ecosystem. The successful applicant reports to the Program Director, working within a vibrant business, with our unique, technical teams and technical specialists, to deliver effective health information systems and integrated health architectures on several exciting digital and health information systems projects. We regularly engage with a global set of stakeholders and international communities of practice.
Your day will include working with our funders, beneficiaries, technology managers, guiding activities across collaborating teams, implementing agreed upon approaches, championing policies and plans; managing program level risks; communicating sensitively with key stakeholders across geographically dispersed locations; and analysing outcomes and processes to compete and succeed in a complex and changing environment. S/He supports the development, use and iteration of key toolkits, guidance documents, and other knowledge products to support the standardisation and dissemination of best practices to be used internally and externally in support of digital health implementations.
The ideal candidate brings previous influence and management experience and either a medical or public health background with informatics skills/interests; or a strong information systems development background with experience/interest in the non-profit public healthcare arena. Domain knowledge is important for success in this role.
The wide variety of tasks performed by the Senior Technical Program Manager includes: relationship management across funders, beneficiaries, employees and external consultants and contractors; handling planned staff assignments; administering project management against budgets; conflict management, programme risk management, evaluations and report writing.
Required skills & experience
To be successful in this role you will need relevant tertiary level training and advanced knowledge in digital health, medicine, public health, computer science, information systems, or related fields.
Five to ten years’ experience in a relevant management, academic or international position, working with highly-skilled professionals and/or managers in health information systems, with cross-cultural experience
Leadership skills including the ability to innovate and problem solve in the domain of health information systems
Management skills, including the ability to influence and manage across teams of technical and programme management professionals
Ability to represent Jembi at relevant levels as may be required with donors, government, international organisations and partners
Excellent English language proficiency
Valid driver’s licence
Ability to travel for specific programmes (1 week trip, at most 8 times a year)
Beneficial skills & experience
Masters degree in Health Sciences, Computer Science, Information Systems or similar relevant fields
Ability to conduct research; implementation and write high quality reports
Domain knowledge and experience of health systems strengthening and health information systems development in low resource settings as well as the priorities and programmes of international donors
Programme and project management skills and experience, including project development, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting
Knowledge and/or experience of establishing country offices or partnerships, project strategy development, programme implementation, operational management and resourcing and key stakeholder relationships management
Regulatory and procedural knowledge, and experience in budgeting and development of grant and project proposals, for international funding agencies e.g. CDC, USAID, PEPFAR, EU, WHO, UNICEF.
Proficiency in other African languages is highly desirable but not required.
