In May Jembi CEO, Chris Seebregts, participated in a meeting organized by PATH ahead of the World Economic Forum in Durban to discuss health innovation and research capacity in Africa. The meeting was hosted by the new PATH South Africa office and chaired by PATH CEO, Steve Davis. The meeting included a number of international delegates, including Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius and Her Excellency Grace Naledi Pandor, the South African Minister of Science and Technology as well as the Minister of Health of Uganda, Director General of the South African National Department of Health and CEO of NEPAD. The meeting was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust and Leapfrog Investments.
Discussions centred around the role of innovation in transforming healthcare in Africa and the potential of African-led innovation. A number of novel innovations and business partnerships were highlighted as well as the opportunities that exist to leverage innovation funding. A significant opportunity exists to establish smart partnerships across disciplines to create novel solutions to existing challenges. A full report on the meeting here: http://www.path.org/
