Integrated Syndromic Surveillance in South Africa (ISIS)

Executive Summary

The Karolinska Institute (KI) in Sweden, in collaboration with National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa, is undertaking a project in South Africa on surveillance of infectious diseases. The project aims to investigate the feasibility of sending reports from three clinics (Gottenburg, Utah and Welverdiend) in the Bushbuckridge area, Mpumalanga, using mobile phones. More specifically, the project aims to use a smart phone for transmitting selected data. The submission of data with the mobile phone will be done by a designated person or nurse. Jembi Health Systems is providing technical assistance for the project.
