Jembi is collaborating with Ona and HISP in order to support GIZ Malawi and the Ministry of Health to strengthen health systems related to reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health by promoting data analysis, interpretation and use through the implementation of an electronic register system.

 

The project is divided into three phases.  The first phase includes a needs assessments, requirements gathering and solution design. The second phase includes the solution development and pilot. The third phase is the implementation of the openSRP solution in facilities in Malawi covering the following key areas:

 

The child health module covers immunisations, vitamin-A, deworming and bednet distribution workflows. The module will be localised to support the Malawian national immunisation schedule as well as the birth register reporting of death, vaccine, adverse events and any additional forms to support the child health module.

 

The ANC module will be integrated to the child health module. The ANC module is aligned with the WHO guidelines and clinical algorithms including a new workflow to support the switch to the eight contact model. The module will be localised in order to support the Malawian context, service schedules as well as birth and outcomes forms. The maternity module will record when a woman goes into labour record the outcome and any referrals that are required.

 

A new PNC module will be developed that will allow Healthcare workers to record PNC services for the mother and baby including any family planning method adopted by the mother following delivery.  At the end of the postnatal period the mother's record can be archived and the child's records will shift to the child health module where the Healthcare worker can continue to record services e.g. immunisations. 

 

OpenSRP currently integrates to DHIS2 in order to support aggregate reporting of relevant indicators. The DHIS2 location hierarchy will be used in the openSRP application. In addition, there will be an in-app ANC, maternity PNC and child health reporting module so that Healthcare workers will be able to track health and performance indicators of interest for their health facility on their mobile device.  The reporting module will feed into a broader reporting stack for the project consisting of dashboards for project reporting at health facility, district and national level.
