In May, Jembi’s open-source Master Patient Index application jeMPI was added to the Digital Public Goods Alliance’s DPG Registry as a digital public good.
The DPGA promotes s (DPGs) to create a more equitable world. Being recognised as a DPG increases visibility, support, and adoption of open projects that can tackle global challenges.
jeMPI has officially been added to the Digital Public Goods Alliance’s (DPGA) Registry. This global recognition affirms JemPI’s role in advancing equitable, open digital health systems.
What is jeMPI?
jeMPI is a standards-based patient identity platform that helps link and match patient records across multiple health systems. It:
Acts as a master patient index (MPI) or client registry (CR)
Uses advanced matching techniques to identify duplicate or fragmented records
Connects patient data from electronic medical records, lab, and radiology systems
Creates a single, accurate patient profile with a unique ID
This allows implementers, such as governments and health programmes to:
Improve continuity of care
Ensure accurate health data for reporting and planning
Support case-based surveillance and public health outcomes
jeMPI is already improving care coordination for millions of HIV patients in Kenya by supporting patient record matching and linking in the national data warehouse.
To qualify as a DPG, solutions must meet the DPG Standard, which includes being open source and aligned with best practices around security, privacy, and sustainability. While also supporting progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) jeMPI’s listing affirms our commitment to responsible innovation and strengthens our work supporting scalable, government-owned infrastructure.
Why Being a Digital Public Good Matters
Being listed as a Digital Public Good:
Highlights jeMPI’s open-source, scalable approach
Strengthens the broader OpenHIM community
Unlocks new opportunities for collaboration and impact
A Step Forward for Patient Identity Management
This milestone validates Jembi’s work to help countries leapfrog fragmented health data systems. jeMPI’s inclusion on the DPG Registry supports a growing ecosystem of modular, reusable infrastructure for digital health.
