In a significant step forward for regional health data integration, Jembi Health Systems, the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), and MOASIS have formalised their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Kethlatlogile Mosepele of BUAN and Professor Christopher Seebregts, CEO of Jembi Health Systems, sign the landmark One Health MoU in Gaborone.

This agreement, signed by Jembi CEO Prof. Chris Seebregts and BUAN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ketlhatlhogile Mosepele, with MOASIS represented by Ms Marina Chichava in absentia, marks the culmination of two years of collaborative dialogue.

The partnership focuses on strengthening data systems and fostering integrated One Health approaches across Southern Africa. This collaborative framework recognises that timely, reliable data is the foundation for the effective protection of human and animal health in the region.

Building on Existing One Health Progress

The MoU builds upon Jembi's ongoing work with the Botswana Ministry of Health on interoperability training and discussions with the Ministry of Land and Agriculture regarding its digitisation strategy. This comprehensive approach ensures alignment across multiple sectors critical to public health outcomes.

Scope of Collaboration

The agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation:

  • Joint research initiatives

  • Information exchange

  • Collaborative publications

  • Knowledge-building workshops

  • Integration of veterinary and public health information systems

The geographical scope encompasses Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, and the wider SADC region, creating opportunities for both BUAN and Jembi to leverage each other's networks for maximum impact.

Looking Forward

This MoU represents more than a formal agreement—it symbolises a shared vision for regional collaboration in building resilient, integrated One Health systems. Together, these partners aim to safeguard communities, animals, and environments through improved data systems and collaborative approaches to health challenges.
