From pilot to scale: Delivering impact across health systems

This article is adapted from our annual report for funders, implementers, and government partners working to strengthen health information systems.

The window for digital health transformation is open, but it won't stay open forever.

Momentum around digital public infrastructure, new expectations for artificial intelligence (AI) readiness, and changing donor priorities are pushing countries to modernise how health data moves.

Jembi is responding by helping Ministries of Health move beyond proof-of-concept and into real-world systems that are locally owned, interoperable, and designed to last.

Transforming health systems at scale

In multiple country contexts, Jembi partners with Ministries of Health to scale digital platforms that streamline care, improve data quality, and build foundations for AI-ready health systems.

In 2025, Jembi-supported systems processed over 4.1 million health records, while the cost per person served fell by nearly 50% since 2020.

From regional presence to global impact

Each country uses the same core technology, the Open Health Information Mediator (OpenHIM) platform, which helps different health systems exchange data safely and reliably.

Advancing health systems across Africa and Asia

Jembi has strengthened healthcare systems in 2024 through tailored interoperability solutions across multiple countries. Our platforms are connecting fragmented healthcare systems across Africa and Asia, enabling real-time data exchange and improved care coordination.

Our approach bridges critical capacity gaps while ensuring sustainable local ownership, which is essential for the long-term success of healthcare initiatives and the empowerment of local health workers.

Our Country Case Studies

These examples show what becomes possible when health data can move between systems without manual reconciliation.

Ethiopia: Our Central Data Repository (CDR) connects more than 50 health facilities, managing over 53,500 HIV patient records, and reduced facility data aggregation for reporting from weeks to days, with 99.9% data accuracy.

Mozambique: Our OpenHIM platform enables real-time birth registration, with over 11,589 births digitally registered, and supports the country's first digital hospital, saving an estimated $7.8 million annually.

Kenya: We implemented a Master Patient Index (MPI), which processed and deduplicated 3.5 million patient records and improved continuity of care across facilities.

Sri Lanka: Our FHIR-compliant electronic health record (EHR) system links four major medical record systems, connecting over 50 million patient visits annually and establishing a foundation for nationwide health information exchange.

Indonesia: OpenHIM connects previously siloed systems to the national SatuSehat platform, processing 6,696 requests per minute and supporting services from tuberculosis (TB) monitoring to maternity care across the archipelago.

These implementations suggest how strategic investments in interoperability can speed up data centralisation, improve accuracy, increase confidence, and help teams act faster.
