Jembi Health Systems made a significant impact at the 2025 Pan-African Health Informatics Association (HELINA) scientific conference in Gaborone, Botswana, from August 26th to 28th.
Our team's contributions showcased Jembi's leadership in digital health innovation, standards implementation, and integrated health surveillance approaches across Africa.
Advancing Climate-Health Integration

Prof. Chris Seebregts, Jembi’s CEO, presented on integrating climate and health data through open-source technologies. The session showed how AI-powered predictive analytics can support decision‑making and strengthen outbreak response, with Ethiopia’s malaria surveillance as a case study.
Strengthening Interoperability Standards

Richard Langford, Jembi's Lead Systems Analyst and FHIR expert, conducted a hands-on training workshop on HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). Participants gained practical skills essential for enhancing interoperability across African health systems—a critical foundation for effective health information exchange.
Championing One Health Surveillance
António Macheve Jr outlined the case for integrated One Health disease surveillance. His presentation emphasised the necessity of unifying data from public health, animal health, environmental, meteorological, and laboratory systems into cohesive platforms that enable early warnings and coordinated outbreak prevention.
Looking Forward
Our participation at HELINA 2025 reinforced our commitment to strengthening Africa's digital health ecosystem through technological innovation, standards adoption, and collaborative approaches to health challenges. These efforts align with our mission to build resilient health systems capable of addressing complex health threats across the continent.
