Jembi Health Systems is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Rolan Christian as the new Headquarters Programmes Director. Dr. Christian has a PhD in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Leadership (MBL).
He has extensive expertise in technology, healthcare, and health information exchange, which will help advance Jembi's mission to improve global health through innovative technology.
Rolan’s Journey to Jembi
Dr. Christian brings over two decades of experience, with a strong focus on implementing technology-based programmes. His career spans pivotal roles across telecommunications, financial services, and healthcare sectors.
Notably, as CEO of CareConnect, he spearheaded the launch of South Africa's first private sector Health Information Exchange (HIE), growing it to host 5.1 million unique patients’ records within two years and earning the BCX Digital Innovation Award. Dr. Christian's expertise in strategic leadership, stakeholder management, and implementing international healthcare interoperability standards uniquely positions him to advance Jembi's mission.
These roles demonstrate Dr. Christian's extensive background in health information systems, strategic leadership, stakeholder management, and financial oversight, making him well-suited for the HQ Programmes Director role at Jembi Health Systems.

Impact on Jembi’s Work
Under Dr. Christian’s leadership, Jembi expects to strengthen its current programmes and projects and embark on new initiatives that leverage his expertise. These include strengthening our existing work in developing and implementing the OpenHIM Platform and associated HIE projects with ministries of health and implementation partners in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.
Dr. Christian's expertise will enable Jembi to strengthen programme delivery and implementation, which is particularly needed considering that several projects are reaching significant scale in the countries Jembi operates in. We also hope to explore with Rolan innovative new business models to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the open-source digital public goods that Jembi develops and maintains.
