One Health Initiative: Jembi and BUAN's Strategic Partnership

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

As an avid proponent of the One Health approach, Jembi Mozambique met with senior faculty at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) in Gaborone. The meeting included the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Dean of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty Sciences, and the Head of Department for Zoonosis.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss advancing partnerships and cooperation in Southern Africa. This collaboration would involve NGOs, academia, and the public sector. The goal is to ensure effective surveillance of both human and animal health. This is particularly important given the increasing adverse effects of zoonosis on human health.

Diseases like COVID-19 and Foot and Mouth Disease have demonstrated the need for strategic intersectoral partnerships. Such partnerships are essential to prevent these diseases from spreading widely into the human population.

As an organization specialized in information systems as well as monitoring and evaluation, Jembi plays a pivotal role in collaboration with academia and governments to provide timely information to prevent the spread of animal diseases in the human realm.
